<\/p>\nFor a decade, many educational institutions have relied on Google Workspace for Education. The UX was simple enough for a wide variety of users, and most importantly, Google provided unlimited storage\u2014a vital part of the tool for the students, faculty, staff, and alumni who used the system to store huge amounts of data, files, videos, and presentations.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Google ended its unlimited storage policy in early 2023, capping its amount of free storage at a pooled 100 terabytes<\/a> (TB).<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t nearly enough storage for many universities, with some, particularly those with a large research focus, reaching storage amounts of over 2,000 TB<\/a>. And universities can\u2019t just pay a one-time fee to upgrade storage, instead, they have to pay<\/a> for a new tier of Google Workspace for Education, even if all they want to do is increase storage.<\/p>\n While some universities have simply begun to cap their students, alumni, faculty, and staff storage amounts, this has led to some universities searching for a new file sharing and storage tool. After all, if they\u2019re paying for a tool, why not get one that has more tools, functionality, and security than Google Workspace?<\/p>\n
