Compliance is Taking Center Stage in 2024

These days, regulators expect businesses to treat compliance as part of an overall Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) strategy. Compliance is now a deeper endeavor than the box-ticking exercise that it was in times past. With the ever-growing complexity of the global data landscape, compliance is now often a major operation. Governments and regulations now dictate that organizations need to develop detailed GRC frameworks to handle the increasing challenges of safeguarding sensitive data and guard against shadow IT and SaaS sprawl.

From the outset, compliance and security have been the backbone of FileCloud's solution. While FileCloud is as easily adopted as a consumer-grade offering, it's also much more secure, due to its multi-layered security features and zero trust architecture.

FileCloud is consistently enhancing its product offerings to support customers' needs in a constantly evolving global business environment. The latest FileCloud release offers a variety of new enhancements that illustrate FileCloud's commitment to offering the most secure, yet user-friendly file-sharing product in today's marketplace.

Stay Ahead of the Compliance Curve with FileCloud

FileCloud already provides regulatory support to hundreds of organizations worldwide through its Compliance Center, which is available in the FileCloud admin portal. With its guidance for complex regulations such as ITAR, HIPAA, and GDPR, the templates within the Compliance Center give real-time information on organizational adherence to best practices. Where compliance is lacking, the Compliance Center offers information on necessary configurations to put in place to achieve full compliance.

With its latest release, FileCloud adds to the suite of regulations that can be closely managed and monitored via its Compliance Center. Customers are now further empowered by the addition of NIST 800-171 and the Saudi Arabian Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL).

Addition of NIST 800-171

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. produced NIST 800-171 to provide guidance on the use of controlled unclassified information (CUI). All organizations that process CUI on behalf of the U.S. government must be compliant with NIST 800-171.

FileCloud has now made it easier for federal contractors to meet these requirements by adding a NIST 800-171 tab to its Compliance Center. This allows simpler monitoring of the detailed best practices within the guidance. Admins can now adjust FileCloud configurations to ensure full adherence to NIST 800-171 and ensure that all data that is categorized as CUI remains secure and compliant.

Addition of PDPL

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is constantly growing as a major hub of business for the MENA region and globally. The country has embarked on a project of rapid digital transformation as part of its ambitious Vision 2030 framework. Accordingly, its initiatives encompass both government and private sector organizations. As such, Saudi Arabia has enacted legislation to ensure cybersecurity standards and data privacy for all of its citizens.

Part of this initiative is the PDPL, which was enacted by the Saudi government in 2023. This privacy law is similar to the GDPR in terms of both stringency and punitive measures for compliance failures. In fact, the Saudi government requires all organizations that handle the personal data of Saudi residents to be PDPL-compliant.

The Compliance Center in FileCloud's admin portal enables organizations to adopt the PDPL seamlessly. Specifically, it provides a list of the main PDPL best practices. Moreover, it maps these to system information on compliance violations and instructions on the configurations required to fix them. As with other regulations, the Compliance Center also provides notifications of PDPL violations. It empowers those managing data protection to take prompt action by way of mitigation.
