Defend Critical Infrastructure with FileCloud

March 29, 2023

FileCloud provides sophisticated tools and features to support the National Cybersecurity Strategy’s first pillar: defend critical infrastructure.

On March 2nd, 2023, the U.S. government released the National Cybersecurity Strategy outlining the plan to secure a "safe and secure digital ecosystem for all Americans" 1. The plan aims to:

The plan is based on five strategic pillars:

  1. Defend Critical Infrastructure
  2. Disrupt and Dismantle Threat Actors
  3. Shape Market Forces to Drive Security and Resilience
  4. Invest in a Resilient Future
  5. Forge International Partnerships to Pursue Shared Goals

In this post, we will focus on the first pillar: defend critical infrastructure. In the White House press release, this pillar is defined as: "expanding the use of minimum cybersecurity requirements in critical sectors to ensure national security and public safety and harmonizing regulations to reduce the burden of compliance."

FileCloud Helps "Defend Critical Infrastructure"

FileCloud is a hyper-secure, compliance-friendly, enterprise-grade content collaboration platform that can help your organization manage data in a streamlined and intuitive fashion that meets federal cybersecurity objectives for critical infrastructure sectors. The FileCloud solution goes beyond providing a safe way to share files between your team and external users with these key features:

File Sharing and Remote Access:

FileCloud’s easy-to-use user interface provides a secure framework to allow your users to access the company data remotely and share it with any user outside the organization with an in-depth audit registry of all the operations.

Content Collaboration and Productivity:

More than a cloud storage and sharing solution, FileCloud has all the necessary tools to help teams collaborate remotely using Team Folders, granular sharing permissions (including industry-first Zero Trust File SharingSM), and integrations with Office 365 and Google Docs. These tools support secure data sharing among different groups, with the added ability to leverage workflow automation to reduce administrative burdens and handle repetitive work.

Security, Protection, and Data Residency:

Whether you use FileCloud Enterprise Online or FileCloud Enterprise Server, your FileCloud environment serves as a secure gateway between local networks and external access, providing reliable user access through authentication via local user management, Active Directory, LDAP, and Single Sign-on integrations. To keep data safe, FileCloud includes AES encryption for data at rest and TLS/SSL protocols for data in transit.

Data Compliance:

FileCloud’s Compliance Center offers a unique dashboard that helps organization ensure systems are configured to comply with different regulations (configurations available for HIPAA, GDPR, and ITAR). FileCloud also provides additional compliance support for regulations like CMMC, NIST, CCPA, FINRA, and GxP through comprehensive white papers and configuration guides (available through our resource library).

Workflow Automation:

FileCloud offers workflow automation functionalities for admins and users. Admin workflows help with administrative task automation like user account management (for example: deleting accounts after X number of days). User workflows are designed to support end user operations (for example, approve/deny external shares from specific paths, file types, email domains, etc.). The user workflows include a no-code, drag-and-drop builder to make creating and managing workflows easy and accessible.

Data Governance and Content Lifecycle:

FileCloud provides the necessary tools to implement security policies for the document life cycle (for example, keeping older file versions). Retention policies prevent files from being changed under an admin or legal hold; a simple retention policy ensures files are maintained for a specified amount of time; archive policies move data that is no longer needed to secure cold storage; recycle bin policies address data at the end of its digital life cycle. These hierarchical retention policies can be used to automate the document life cycle throughout the FileCloud environment to reduce administrative burden and human error in long-term data management.

Digital Right Management:

For the most secure sharing options available in FileCloud, we provide a framework to share files enclosed in a secure document where you can protect, track, and control confidential, sensitive documents after distribution. Files are opened with the FileCloud Secure File Viewer, and access can be changed or revoked at any time.

Integrations:

FileCloud is API-friendly and has an extensive list of integration options with external systems. Integrations include cloud storage like Amazon S3, Azure Blob, and Alibaba Cloud; CRM solutions like SalesForce; identity providers like Azure SSO, OKTA, and Active Directory; SIEM and antivirus applications, and more.

Customization and Branding:

FileCloud lets you completely change the look and feel of your FileCloud environment, helping you provide a branded experience to your internal and external users. Run FileCloud on a custom domain, update the login portal graphics for users and admins, and change the text of notifications and Terms of Service to extend your branding guidelines. FileCloud even supports uploading custom CSS and changing the display language or calendar settings to support localization.
