Build Your Own File Sharing Server with FileCloud
FileCloud Community Edition gives IT professionals and enthusiasts a free way to run their own self-hosted file sharing environment. Instead of storing everything with a public cloud provider, you install FileCloud on infrastructure you control and choose where your files are stored.
Community Edition supports up to five full users and ten external accounts. Users can access files through the web, desktop applications, and mobile devices, while administrators manage sharing, permissions, storage, and access from FileCloud.
For a home lab, this means you can experiment with the same type of self-hosted file sharing platform used in larger environments without purchasing an enterprise license.

What Is Included with the Free Edition?
Community Edition includes many of the core capabilities needed to build a practical personal cloud or home file server, including:
- Team Folders and Network Folders
- Public, private, password-protected, and time-limited sharing
- Granular folder and subfolder permissions
- File versioning and recycle bin support
- Desktop file synchronization
- Remote file access
- Mobile access
- Device management
- Audit logs
- File search
- Support for local and network storage as well as supported cloud storage
This makes Community Edition more than a simple browser-based file upload tool. You can use it to explore file synchronization, remote access, external sharing, permissions, storage configuration, and administration within your own environment.
What Do You Need to Run FileCloud at Home?
Because Community Edition is self-hosted, FileCloud does not provide the server or storage for you. You will need your own supported server, virtual machine, or cloud instance together with storage for your files.
For remote access, you should also plan for a domain, SSL certificate, appropriate network configuration, and the basic system administration needed to maintain a self-hosted server.
That extra setup is also the point for many home lab users: you control the infrastructure and get hands-on experience configuring a real file sharing environment.
