FileCloud is committed to forging partnerships that add value to its offering by increasing the diversity of file storage, security, and data sovereignty options available to its customers. Recently, FileCloud launched its partnership with Open Telekom Cloud (OTC), the T-Systems public cloud. With this membership of the exclusive OTC Cloud Circle of partners, FileCloud significantly broadens its foothold in Europe. It also creates a valuable offering to customers seeking secure, GDPR-compliant content collaboration solutions.
OTC is a highly secure and scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering that's based on OpenStack technology. With data centers in Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, it's designed to meet diverse needs of organizations and businesses. It offers customers individually configurable cloud services that they can administer through a self-service portal or APIs. Furthermore, it includes Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings.
Like FileCloud, OTC focuses heavily on data sovereignty and compliance with data protection regulations to ensure that organizations have full control over their digital assets. FileCloud on OTC is a great option for enterprises and public sector entities wishing to leverage cloud technology for innovation and growth through secure content collaboration, while also maintaining robust security standards at all levels of the technology stack.
OTC rigorously ensures that its data centers are highly secure and 100% compliant with the GDPR. Additionally, it assures full data sovereignty, as defined by the GAIA-X initiative. OTC processes sensitive data in a highly protected environment with the highest of security standards.
Data sovereignty refers to the relationship of data to the laws of the country in which it is stored and processed. Data residency, on the other hand, addresses the practicalities of the concrete location of the storage and processing of data in line with data sovereignty standards.
Companies are increasingly concerned about data sovereignty and residency, as governments recognize the importance of ensuring organizations retain digital assets within designated borders. In concrete terms, this means governments across the world are enacting privacy laws requiring organizations to adhere to strict data residency rules.
Enterprises are now more interested than ever in stemming unauthorized access to sensitive data. This is largely due to the global increase in data flows and cloud computing. Governments and businesses are now highly focused on balancing data-driven innovation with the safeguarding of individual privacy rights and national interests. In recent years, governments have reshaped policies and practices in relation to data management worldwide, due to the need to assert national autonomy in relation to the digital sphere.
OTC supports the "shared responsibility" model of cooperation with its partners. Consequently, OTC is committed to ensuring that its data centers are always well-resourced. Indeed, independent auditors regularly certify that OTC data centers have sufficient capacity to cater to the ever-changing requirements of cloud users.
T-Systems takes responsibility for the overarching security aspects of OTC at the infrastructure layer, including IT governance. For example, its information security management system (ISMS) is verified by the ISO/IEC 27000 family of certifications. Various further certifications attest to OTC's vigilance with regard to compliance and security. Given FileCloud's ongoing commitment to data integrity and security, these credentials and shared commitment make for an ideal partnership.
By partnering with OTC, FileCloud is aligning itself with award-winning sustainable best practices. Significantly, OTC uses 100% green electricity for its German and Dutch data centers. This allows it to honor the requirements of the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact, which T-Systems joined in 2021. It achieves this outstanding green electricity requirement through the use of carbon-free energy, server recycling, heat recovery, and water savings. As a result, OTC data centers use 30% less energy than other data centers of a similar scale. This means that customers who choose FileCloud on OTC are automatically contributing to a more sustainable, energy-efficient economy for Europe and the planet.
The State of Security 2024, a global survey conducted by Splunk, reports that 46% cybersecurity professionals perceive the threat landscape as increasingly difficult to navigate, as geopolitical tensions exacerbate cyber-warfare. Furthermore, respondents point to IoT, the weaponization of AI, and increasing volumes of data globally as other sources of pressure.
FileCloud on OTC protects your data both at the infrastructure and application levels. Much of the work that would otherwise be involved in security and compliance is eliminated. Generally, this is due to the ongoing commitment of both companies to continuous improvement and technological advancement. The partnership between FileCloud and Deutsche Telekom's hyper-scaler, B2B cloud, OTC, truly represents a milestone for FileCloud's European operations.
